DUCKS STAY UNDEFEATED ON BIGGEST CHALLENGE
ColumbusDucks.com Staff Writer – February 20, 2009

On the shoulders of Don McMillen and the airtight defense
the Ducks remained undefeated in Thursday Night D League
action with a win against 2nd place Beer. Brandon Wilkins
led all scorers with 2 goals but his 1st was all the Ducks
would need as goalie Don McMillen had the answer for all
Beer could throw at him. Bill Ross added a goal and an
assist to round out the Ducks offense.

“I just tried to make sure I could put us in a position
to win. It is my job to score goals so that is what I do.”
The newly installed Ducks Alternate Captain Brandon Wilkins
said.

“I am proud of the Ducks playing in a more competitive league
and we are playing stronger hockey than ever before. It is
starting to fall into place. We are skating, we are passing,
and we are shooting. We are starting to become good.”
Captain/Coach John McConnell added.

Pun certainly intended, 2nd place Beer came out a little flat
and could not figure out the Ducks defense and only mounted
a few real scoring chances. One break away on a bad
defensive transition was the best chance Beer had and
Don McMillen stood tall in net building a wall with his
pads. The stifling defense and goaltending is starting to
become the Ducks M.O. and the confidence in their blueliners
is really starting to show in the offensive output.

“When you are confident in the goalie and the defense you can
really put some pressure on the other team. It really works.”
The other Alternate Captain Bill Ross said.

Look for the Ducks to continue the un-beaten streak next week
at Easton against old nemesis Rusty Pucks.
